The steps involved in the procedure of liver transplant is as follows-


1. The patient is given anesthesia.

2. An incision is made on the belly of the person. Near the incision made a small, plastic, bulb-shaped drains are placed to drain blood and fluid from around the liver.

3. In the patient bile duct, a tube-like structure called a T-tube may be placed to allow it to drain outside the body into a small pouch called a bile bag.

4. Bile production early after the surgery is a good sign and is one of the indicators surgeons look for to determine if the liver transplant is being "accepted" by the patient's body.

5. After the surgery is performed the patient is taken to the intensive care unit, is monitored very closely with several machines.

6. The patient will have several blood tests, X-ray films, and ECGs during the hospital stay.
